About the event

Join us in welcoming in Pride Month 2023 at The Wave, Bristol. We'll be hanging by the bay all day, for different surf sessions from beginners to intermediates - plus food, refreshments and community connect - all day long.

The Queer Surf Club is a global community of LGBTQ+ surfers and allies. We're driven by our purpose of creating inclusive surfing to save our oceans. We know the more people we can get into the ocean, the more people passionate about saving them. We host meet ups to bring people from across all different identities to the ocean.

What's The Wave?

The Wave Bristol is a slice of the ocean inland. Where people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities can experience the joy of waves and their many physical and mental health benefits. It’s about getting back to nature, improving health and well-being, connecting with other people, enjoying wonderful food and drink, immersing yourself in an incredible day out and having a load of fun in the process!

Stay updated. Join our Slack server (you'll receive an invite once you sign up here, in a seperate email) to stay updated and connect.

Refunds: Tickets are refundable until the 18th May. Any tickets bought after that are non-refundable.

With different sessions starting at different times in the day, we'll have a chill out area in The Wave cafe, where we can connect, refresh and hang out for the day. We invite you to join us to make a day of it!

Important info from The Wave:

  • You should arrive 60 minutes before your session starts. This gives you time to walk from the carpark, check-in for your surf, collect your equipment, get changed and be ready for your Health & Safety briefing 15 minutes before your session starts. We are sorry but The Wave are not able to allow assistance dogs on site.

Subsidised Surf - as The Wave is a more pricey than our usual meet ups, we're not able to offer our subsidied surf for this meet up. We're sorry :(

  • 12:30 - Beginner Lesson

Surf Lessons led by the team at The Wave. "Our beginner surf lessons are a mixture of lakeside training and in-wave action. They take place in our small white water waves in The Bay. Your lesson will include a full health and safety briefing every time you surf, thirty minutes dry land lesson including warm up activities and one hour in the lake. You’ll learn about water safety, surf equipment, body positioning and how to surf." For more info, visit:

  • 11:30 - Intermediate Lesson

All lessons are led by The Wave team. Left or Right (TBC) Our intermediate surf lessons take place in the Reef area of the lake and they are all about improving your skills and boosting your confidence. They cover a range of areas, with a focus on learning how to control and manoeuvre your board as you ride the wave. Some of the key elements that you will touch on in the lessons are top and bottom turns, top turn snaps and cutbacks – as well as working on how to generate and maintain speed.

  • 12:00 - Intermediate Session

Left or Right wave to be decided. From The Wave: "These are unbroken waves with more strength and a steeper take off than our Waikiki waves. They allow you to practise using the rails of your surfboard and turn using your body weight and the fins on your board. You will start to develop even more paddle strength and much greater board control as you paddle back to the take off area." For more info, visit

  • 19:00 - Waikiki Session

From The Wave: "Improving surfers who have caught many beginner waves and can ride their waves in the bay with control and are looking for the next challenge. Also great for experienced surfers wanting to have a mellow surf, or for groups of mixed surfing ability wanting to enjoy a session together." For more info, visit
